Patricia L. Layton, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist                                                      Contact me at (612) 926-8802

Welcome to my website. I'm a psychologist in private practice who provides counseling and psychotherapy for individual and couples in the Minneapolis area. I've included information here to help you see if I'm the right therapist for you - and you can also feel free to call me at    (612) 926-8802. Messages can be left 24 hours a day. I return calls during regular business hours and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

I see a wide age-range of clients from older teens to seniors, in both individual and couples therapy.  I believe in individualized care for your difficulties. We will begin with an initial session where we will discuss in detail the nature of your concerns and begin to develop a plan for your care. I will treat you as a whole person and will try to treat not only the current symptoms but, if you wish, longstanding patterns of behavior or belief that may interfere with optimal self-care.
I work with many different concerns such as depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.  I have extensive experience in the treatment of eating disorders such as binge eating, bulimia and anorexia. In addition, I am a certified EMDR practitioner which you may find helpful either as the first treatment to try, or when talking about a problem doesn't resolve it. I have received advanced training and supervision in use of EMDR for a variety of problems.
Examples of Problem Areas I Treat:
  • Mood difficulties including: depression, post-partum depression, general feeling of low mood
  • Anxiety: general fears, specific fears, panic disorders, stress disorders
  • Eating disorders: binge eating, bulimia, anorexia, chaotic eating
  • Body image
  • Stress reduction
  • Problems in relationship to others: significant others, parents, children, friends
  • Self-care related to chronic illness or life-threatening disease
  • Self improvement

"Dr. Layton has been a respected colleague for over twenty years. She is often the
first psychologist I think of when I need to refer a client. The feedback I've received is
that she is unfailingly caring, competent, and genuinely helpful as clients work to make
changes in their lives."
